What is the EIC Pre-Accelerator Call?

The Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area (WIDERA) introduces a pilot EIC Pre-Accelerator call in 2025. It is introduced to support early-stage deep tech startups to develop the technology, business and investment readiness to levels that would enable them to successfully apply and attract funding from EIC Accelerator or other sources.

EIC Pre-Accelerator Programme 2025 Overview

• Grant amount: €300,000 to €500,000 (lump sum)
• Funding percentage: Covers 70% of eligible costs (the start-up funds the remaining 30%)
• Total budget: €20 million to support start-ups in expanding countries
• Key Deadlines:
  • Call opens: 6 May 2025
  • Application deadline: 18 November 2025

Who can apply?
This funding is open to one-person SMEs from Horizon Europe Widening countries developing deep-tech innovations in the fields of physical, biological, or digital technologies.

Applications are submitted through the F&T portal in a single phase and reviewed by independent experts based on EIC Transition criteria.

EIC Pre-Accelerator: Funding Conditions

The Pre-Accelerator sets milestones for participating start-ups to ensure tangible progress, including:

1. Technology Validation: Demonstrate technology feasibility in a relevant environment (TRL 5+).
2. Investor and Market Readiness: Conduct market analysis, refine the value proposition, and develop a scalable business model.
3. Regulatory & Intellectual Property Considerations: Secure IP, competitive positioning, and compliance with industry regulations.
4. Real-World Validation: Move from TRL 4 to TRL 6, increasing attractiveness for investment and commercialisation.

Successful projects are well-positioned for EIC Accelerator or other private and public investment opportunities, potentially leading to licensing agreements, partnerships, and market expansion.
