Horizon Europe is the new Framework Program, which will run from 2021 until 2027, with a total budget of €75.9 billion. Currently the draft of subsidy calls is still under consultation, but we gathered all the officially published information on this page.

Horizon Europe structure
The preliminary structure of the new programme is divided over 3 pillars and 1 horizontal focus area:
The Horizon Europe program also aims to implement mission-driven research focusing on five different missions. A mission is a set of actions across multiple disciplines with the aim of reaching a bold and inspirational goal with high impact on society, within a pre-set timeframe. It is expected that these missions will be addressed within the Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness pillar.

The structure of Horizon Europe
Excellent Science (improve & enable scientific research)
- European Research Council funding frontier research designed and driven by the best researchers in Europe. Some tentative timelines for calls in 2021 have been published for ERC calls.
- Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions funding fellowships and mobility of researchers. A preliminary deadline for MSCA-ITN has been published
- Research Infrastructures funding new world-class research infrastructures
Global Challenges & European Industrial Competitiveness
Within this pillar partnerships of European countries, industry and stakeholders will be funded to perform joint R&D activities. This is divided over multiple clusters:
- Health
- Culture, Creativity, and Inclusive Society
- Digital, Industry and Space
- Climate, Energy and Mobility
- Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment
- Joint Research Centre
Improve SME growth & the European innovation landscape
- European Innovation Council (EIC): focus on market-creating innovation and SME growth. In the past years a pilot for the EIC program has been released, including EIC accelerator and EIC Pathfinder calls.
- European Innovation Ecosystems: Connecting with regional and national innovation actors.
- European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) focusing on integrating research, higher education, business and entrepreneurship.
