LIFE Programme

The LIFE programme is a funding programme from the European Union. It’s goal is to stimulate both environmental and climate action. Since the start in 1992 over 5.400 projects received financing from the total budget of €3.4 billion.

The LIFE programme is divided in two sub-programmes:

  • for ENVIRONMENT (representing 75% of the overall financial envelope);
  • for CLIMATE CHANGE (representing 25% of the envelope).

For each sub-programme there are 4 types of projects/actions applicant can apply for regarding defined subject area (of the sub-programme):

  • Traditional projects
  • Integrated projects
  • Preparatory projects
  • Technical assistance

 


The Environment Sub-Programme

This program consists of five different calls:

1. Environment and resource efficiency traditional projects
Subsidy: Varies per project (~€500,000 – 5,000,000)
Deadline: 14 July 2020 (Concept Note); September 2020 (full proposal; by invitation)

2. Nature and biodiversity traditional projects
Subsidy: Varies per project (~ €500,000 – 5,000,000)
Deadline: 16 July 2020 (Concept Note); full proposal by invitation

3. Environmental governance and information traditional projects
Subsidy: Varies per project (~ €500,000 – 5,000,000)
Deadline: 16 July 2020 (Concept Note); September 2020 (full proposal; by invitation)

4. Integrated projects under the sub-programme for environment
Subsidy: Varies per project (on average €10,000,000)
Deadline: 6 October 2020 (Concept Note); indicative 25 March 2021 (full proposal; by invitation)

5. Technical assistance projects under the sub-programme for environment
Subsidy: Max. €100,000 per project
Deadline: Expired

This programme also consists of five different calls

1. Climate change mitigation traditional projects
Subsidy: Varies per project (~ €500,000 – 5,000,000)
Deadline: 6 October 2020 (single stage)

2. Climate change adaptation traditional projects
Subsidy: Varies per project (~ €500,000 – 5,000,000)
Deadline: 6 October 2020 (single stage)

3. Climate governance and information traditional projects
Subsidy: Varies per project (~ €500,000 – 5,000,000)
Deadline: 6 October 2020 (single stage)

4. Integrated projects under the sub-programme for climate action
Subsidy: Varies per project (on average €10,000,000)
Deadline: 6 October 2020 (Concept Note); indicative 25 March 2021 (full proposal; by invitation)

5. Technical assistance projects under the sub-programme for climate action
