Generally, VBHC focuses on outcomes that matter to patients and the costs that are needed to reach them. VBHC uses a clear set of defined rules to measure and realize these outcomes.


Valuable as it is, this approach can only be applied to a subset of therapies or care pathways. 1. Building the right Value Stories: when developing this proposition for a therapeutic area, it is important to assess the economic, societal and clinical value of your product. Validating your propositions with KOLs and patients will allow you to build value-driven offerings that will fit in the healthcare system and are valuable to HCPs and patients.

2. Medical value training & capability management: apply a holistic value strategy to the rollout of therapies. How to listen to patients and physicians, and act on the insights based on available treatments and current pathways. This training focuses on understanding the VBHC landscape, gaining soft and virtual communication skills (particular focus due to Covid-19 pandemic), and applying holistic value into real-life conversations with KOLs.

3. Patient-centric and beyond-the-molecule solutions: differentiate your product to offer a greater service to patients and ensure a better fit to patients’ and other stakeholders’ needs. Current patient outcomes are often only focused around the physical health condition of the patient directly derived from the product. There are, however, many more outcomes you can measure that will help you improve the products you offer and optimise the service around them.

4. Care pathway optimisation & stakeholder alignment: the clinical care pathway is often highly complex with numerous stakeholders, barriers and inefficiencies. Bringing healthcare professionals and pharma together to discuss care pathways can result in optimising the care pathway and lead to situations where all stakeholders benefit.
